Associació Gràcia works in coordination with the Department of Justice of Catalonia to assist families during incarceration and prepare for the post-prison and helping in social and occupational rehabilitation.
We have created a shelter for mothers, who use it on their time off, while serving their sentence. During the supervision of parents in some prisons and through our work in the shelter over the past years, we have realized the importance of training parents and giving them support in order to help the child. In 2009 we joined Eurochips network, to share experiences and work with other EU members.
We are developing a pilot training program for incarcerated mothers and we have started the service of Accompaniment of children with imprisoned parents by specially trained volunteers. Our team consists in a trainer, a teacher, a doctor, a psychologist, a social worker and a program coordinator. Moreover, the coordinator of the Department of Psychology and Psychiatry Unit children 0-5 years of St John of God hospital in Barcelona is working with us as well as the manager of the Department of Psychology, Children's Hospital of Barcelona.

Activities of our association
-Restoration of a rented flat to turn it into the house of the Association. This flat was practically in ruins, so we worked very hard to turn it into our house.
-Assistance of young mothers and children. We give them a place to live, we help the mothers raise and educate their children, and we also take care of them when the mothers look for a job or go to work. We also help these women in social, legal and working aspects.
-We go on supporting the mothers and children that leave our temporary home, helping these women in babysitting and giving them psychological, social and work advice.
-We help the women who are in jail, giving them a temporary place to live during their first exit permissions. We also give a place to sleep to their relatives from other cities/countries who come to see them.

Capacity of our house
We can currently accommodate 4 mothers with their children. In order to keep on growing, we need your help so we really look forward to count on you!
